Dayna Devon and her parents, the Hollerons

As a young girl, Dayna Devon was fascinated with news anchors, dreaming she would one day become a broadcast journalist. Through much hard work, tenacity and perseverance, Devon is realizing her dreams and quickly becoming one of Hollywood’s most recognized and respected entertainment journalists. Devon currently co-anchors Warner Bros. nationally syndicated Extra, the popular entertainment newsmagazine television show. Devon covers such notable Hollywood events as the Academy Awards, Golden Globe Awards and Emmys, among others, and has interviewed such celebrities as Gwyneth Paltrow, Brad Pitt, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Will Smith, George Clooney and Sting, to name a few.

Devon joined Extra in 1999 after two years at WPTY-TV, the ABC affiliate in Memphis. She started at WPTY-TV as a general assignment reporter and 5:00pm news anchor, and was quickly promoted within one year to the main anchor for the 5:00pm, 6:00pm and 10:00pm newscasts, during which time the station experienced ratings growth from the previous year as high as up to 300% on some shows. In 1998, Devon won an Emmy while at WPTY-TV for “Best Live Broadcast”.

In 1994, Devon served as the 6:00pm and 10:00pm main anchor for KMID-TV, the ABC affiliate in Midland, TX, where the station experienced significant ratings growth during Devon’s tenure. Previously, Devon anchored the main 10:00pm news show on KLST-TV, the CBS affiliate in San Angelo, TX. Devon began her career at KTSA-AM radio in San Antonio where she started as the traffic reporter and was quickly promoted in two weeks to the weekend anchor. This initial experience was a critical step in Devon’s career as she learned to think quickly on her feet and gain voice training, all of which would ultimately benefit her rapid career growth.

On the big screen, Devon appeared in the 2001 MGM feature film Antitrust starring Tim Robbins, and also had a guest appearance on NBC’s The West Wing during their 2000/2001 season. Devon is also a regular substitute co-host on the popular, nationally syndicated Rick Dees Show on KIIS-FM radio, as well as a regular anchor fill-in on the local KTLA-TV Morning News.

Devon is an avid reader and enjoys working out, decorating, and surfing. She is married to plastic surgeon Dr. Brent Moelleken, they have they have a daughter Emmi and a son Cole. Devon resides in Los Angeles.

Charron French Holleron shares the story of her teaching career in her own words:

“I retired from the North East Independent School District in 2002. My most recent assignment was teaching in the Gifted and Talented program in which I taught grades K-5 in a pullout program. I am now teaching at Keystone School in a resource lab, and in the summer I will begin teaching a fourth grade class.

“Prior to teaching in the gifted program I had taught in the regular classroom in grades 1-6. In 1989 in the Judson School District I began a training process with the New Jersey Writing Project in Texas. The rigorous course lasted two years. After becoming a trainer for the NJWP in Texas I began to teach a three-week course to other teachers in the summer. I continued to do that for the next 12 years.

“The extensive research and training dramatically changed the way I perceived education, and it changed my life, and my philosophy. I would use writing to learn in many different aspects. The quote by E.B.Forster, ‘How do I know what I think until I see what I say,’ says so much about the complexity of writing and learning.

“I received my BA from Texas Tech University in 1969. I became a level three teacher in 1987. I have taught in many different school districts including a DOD school in Frankfurt, Germany. “I was named the Teacher of the Year at two different schools, Encino Park and Stone Oak. I have also published an article in the English magazine of San Antonio. My greatest desire is to encourage children and adults to believe in themselves and want to learn and succeed.”

Barry W. Holleron was born in San Antonio, Texas, in 1947. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology from Texas Tech University in 1970, after which he taught Biology, Chemistry, and Math at Southwest High School for a year. Dr. Holleron then spent several years in the U.S. Army. After completing his military service, he earned his Master of Science degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio in Animal Behavior in 1976. He went on to teach Anatomy and Physiology at St. Philips College from 1977 to 1985.

Dr. Holleron earned his D.D.S. from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 1984. Since then he has maintained a private dental practice. He has also been a professor of dentistry at U.T.H.S.C.S.A. since 1992. He has taught Dental Practice Management, Operative Dentistry, Pre-clinical and Clinical Dentistry, Ethics D.S. 2 and D.S. 4 at the school.

Dr. Holleron has received extensive recognition for his professional accomplishments. He has been nominated three times for the Health Science Center-wide Teaching Award, has twice been a Marshal at graduation, was named Teacher of the Year for the Class of 2002, and is a reviewer for three national and international dental journals: Operative Dentistry, Journal of Contemporary Dental Practice, and Texas Dental Journal. Dr. Holleron is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Dental Association, the Texas Dental Association, the San Antonio District Dental Association, and OKU Honorary Dental Fraternity.

Dr. Holleron and his wife, Charron French Holleron, have two children—Jason, 33, and Dayna, 37. Jason and his wife Becky have two children—Sydney, 5, and Case, 2. Dayna and her husband, Brent, also have two children—Emmi, one-and-a-half, and Cole, four months.
