Guy Fieri and Fran Moriarty Fischer
Guy Fieri's love of food started when he was ten when he built a pretzel stand from a three wheeled bicycle. After six years of selling pretzels and washing dishes Guy earned enough money to travel to France, where he studied international cuisine. From that point on Guy’s interest in food continued to florish. He received his bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management from University of Nevada Las Vegas. After managing several restaurants and founding several successful restaurants, Guy hosted his first television show Guy’s Big Bite on the Food Network in 2006. Since then Guy’s career has skyrocketed. He now hosts two Food Network series, Drive-Ins and Dives and Ultimate Recipe Showdown, and a NBC primetime series, Minute To Win It. Passionate about education, Guy worked with the California Legislature to develop “Cook With Your Kids Day,” which encourages culinary education.
Fran Moriarty Fischer is in her 31st year of teaching and is still very much enjoying it. She is married to Hank Fischer and lives in Eureka, California. She obtained her bachelor's degree and teaching credential from San Diego State University, and received her master’s degree from Fresno Pacific University. In 1990 Fran received a Humboldt County Excellence in Teaching Award and the Wells Fargo Stagecoach Legacy Award in 2006.
For seven years, as a consultant for the AIMS Foundation (based in Fresno, California), she conducted week long math and science seminars for teachers throughout the United States. She began her career teaching seventh and eighth grade in Ferndale, California. After three years she transferred to kindergarten and has been there ever since. She currently teaches at Ridgewood Elementary School in Eureka. Her best teachers have always been her students. Treating the students the way she wants to be treated has worked well for Fran. Respect breeds respect, as does patience, love, humor and curiosity. After so many years the words of her first administrator, Alan Jorgensen resound; he wisely explained that the rewards of teaching may take several years to come to fruition.
