Brian Waters and George Solis
Brian Waters was born on February 18, 1977 in Waxahachie, Texas, where he attended Waxahachie High School, lettering in football. As a senior, he was an All-District honoree as both a tight end and as a defensive end.
Brian attended college at the University of North Texas, majoring in community service, and then joined the Kansas City Chiefs of the NFL as an undrafted free agent.
On the field, Mr. Waters combines brute strength, solid technique and all-around athleticism to give the Chiefs a consistent effort on the offensive front, and in the locker room he is a vocal leader who isn’t afraid of to ruffle some feathers in order to get the job done. He attended the Pro Bowl following the 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2008 seasons and has twice been selected as first-team All-Pro by the Associated Press. On October 24, 2004, Brian became the first offensive lineman to ever be named AFC Offensive Player of the Week after a dominating performance in a 56-10 win vs. Atlanta.
Through his “Brian Waters 54 Foundation” has made a tremendous impact in his hometown of Waxahachie, including saving the Pee Wee football program from extinction.
Mr. George Solis was born to Hilario and Leocadia Solis, both native-born Texans; he was one of fourteen children. His family were sharecroppers.
Mr. Solis attended Waxahachie High School, and was a state basketball champion. He attended college at The University of Texas at Arlington on a football scholarship where he majored in languages – English, Spanish and French. After college, he earned his teaching degree and became the first Mexican-American to teach in Ellis County, Texas. After teaching high school for ten years, Mr. Solis became a bi-vocational minister, and has now been preaching and teaching for thirty-four years.
In 2001, the school district honored Mr. Solis by naming the new high school gym in his honor.
George has been married to Martha Bernal since 1963, and has four children named George, Lynda, Enrique and Cecilia. They too serve as teachers and ministers.
