I nominate Dr. Ibarra as a super hero teacher who goes the extra mile to help students learn and leads them to strive for higher standards of excellence.
Dr. Ibarra is a super hero because he makes us aware of how important our environment is. We do after-school environmental projects. We used a hydraulic filter press to crush over 300 filters to remove trapped oil and recovered 90% of the oil. We studied energy conservation using lights to learn how they waste energy and produce needless pollution. Dr. Ibarra got me involved in a group that is consulting a local business to decide what lighting system works best in their building. Dr. Ibarra is not just any teacher! This year he was the Wal-Mart National Teacher of the Year. We learned that SeaWorld had selected our environmental project for their national award. I will be one of three students presenting in San Antonio later this year.
I moved to West Branch this year. Dr. Ibarra made me feel good about having moved. His class was more interesting than any science class I had taken. He encourages students to compete in science contests—First Lego League, SeaWorld, and eCybermission.
