NEW YORK, March 2, 2005—TeachersCount, a non-profit organization committed to garnering recognition and benefits for teachers, is working with Hallmark to make it easy to express appreciation to teachers for the spring term of the 2004-2005 school year.
Beginning immediately, parents, students, and friends of teachers who visit either Hallmark.com or TeachersCount.org are now able to send free teaching-themed e-cards to communicate their thanks to the teachers in their lives. Hallmark has designed a series of new e-cards specifically for this purpose.
Hallmark and TeachersCount are also collaborating to present “Ten Ways to Thank a Teacher,” a list of innovative ideas for helping and honoring teachers that will be accessible from both websites. “It is our hope that these new undertakings will inspire students and parents to up the ante on teacher appreciation both in and out of the digital realm,” says Diana Burroughs, Executive Director of the non-profit TeachersCount.
These creative new methods for supporting the teaching profession require more enthusiasm than money, Burroughs adds. The ideas are budget-friendly to complement one of the founding principles of TeachersCount: as troublesome as pay problems in the teaching profession can be, the lack of status and respect for these dedicated individuals is as big, if not a bigger, problem. “While a few of the ideas require some degree of fiscal generosity (donating extra school supplies, for example), most require only time, thought, and, of course, gratitude for the important work teachers do as they shape our nation’s future,” Burroughs adds.
TeachersCount is a national, independent, non-profit organization operated out of New York City. Its goal is to bring resources, services, and recognition to the nation’s vast fleet of teachers using an ever-changing line-up of innovative programs and methods. In addition to its work with Hallmark, TeachersCount offers TeacheRewards, TeachersDisCount, and Honoring Teachers, programs that, respectively, facilitate gift-giving to teachers, offer retail discounts, and web-publish memoirs of students present and past who wish to pay tribute to the teachers who changed their lives.
